Squat Clean & Jerk (165/110#)

In this movement, the barbell goes from ground to overhead with the athlete passing through a full squat position while the barbell is racked on the shoulders. This can be a full-squat-clean-thruster, a power-clean-front-squat-split-jerk, or anything in between as long as the three key positions are reached. The barbell begins on the ground. Touch and go is permitted. No bouncing. The athlete must pass through a full squat with hips below knees. The barbell must come to full lockout overhead with the hips, knees and arms fully extended, and the bar directly over the heels.

Score is one point for each movement (clean & jerk). Masters athletes age 55+ use 135/75#.

In 2011, I (Chris) was the only person who signed up and competed in the CFG Open. I remember this WOD. The weight crushed me! I think I got something like 14 clean & jerks for a total of 28 points. It was a grueling 5 minutes to say the least. In the years since, my relative strength has gone up and while this would still be a tough workout, I would be able to handle the 165# for reps much much better.

Last year we had a great crew from CFW signed up for the Open. Let’s do it again this year! If you haven’t signed up yet, click here and get yourself registered! The format is going to change a bit due to when they are releasing the workouts this year. Instead of a Wednesday Open WOD release (and a Thursday Open WOD for all classes), this year they are releasing the WOD on Thursday evenings and we’ll be taking on the Open WOD on Friday and Sunday. Our tentative schedule is Friday 6-9:30am and 5-7pm and Sunday 4-6pm. Your scores will be due by 5pm Pacific on Monday.
