Hello, CFW fam!
Wow, I miss you guys. This highly extroverted quality time gal is struggling but so thankful for the home WODs and seeing everyone post their scores and pictures of you and your family staying fit together. It really helps keep us connected AND we get to see what your garages and living rooms look like!
Coach Chris asked me to pull together some resources to keep our overall wellness tip-top during a time of maybe a few more snacks or a little more sitting or a little more stress than usual. The foundation of yoga is breathing. The foundation of life is breathing. Both the Calm and Simple Habit apps have guided breathing exercises to help you connect to your breath and use that breath work to stay grounded, relieve stress, and reduce anxiety by helping you get out of your head for a moment. Both apps have a free trial of all features for 7 days and then guided breathing and a few others for free beyond the trial. If you do nothing else, challenge yourself to intentionally stop and purposefully breathe for two minutes. Then see if you can take it to four. Running, jumping, and lifting can be significantly easier than intentionally sitting still purposefully breathing for most people. Be stronger and better than most people.
When people ask me what videos I recommend for at home yoga practice and mobility work I always tell them to search Sarah Beth Yoga on YouTube. Sarah Beth (coincidently, my first and middle name as well) is a highly trained and incredibly professional yoga teacher with a powerful knowledge of the body and strength to rival any CrossFitter. All of her videos on YouTube are free and she offers everything from 10 minute seated stretch videos to 60 minute physically challenging power flow videos and everything in between. Sarah Beth does an excellent job both explaining and demonstrating each pose so you can feel confident trying something new while also having the privacy of home and zero judgement. She has lots of videos geared specifically to beginners but if you are up for a challenge with your new found time, her 7 Day Yoga Challenge is 15 minutes a day and designed especially for beginners. I do it a couple of times a year as a personal reset and reminder and all free on YouTube.
Don’t feel like you need to bust out 15 minutes of guided breath work and 75 minutes of power vinyasa first thing. Start with 2 minutes of breathing and 10 minutes of yoga and be really proud of yourself for trying something new and getting outside your comfort zone. What’s that we always say about pushing ourselves and how growth happens outside our comfort zones? We have a great opportunity to emerge from all of this healthier, stronger, and better, let’s take it.
Stay tuned for more mobility and total wellness coming your way!
