Gymnastics // Monostructural // Weightlifting

We cycle through different elements of fitness during the weeks/ months/ years of CrossFit training. This “constantly varied” stimulus is what gives the most bang for the buck for your time. Specialization is for insects and people who want to get in the Guinness Book.

Let’s talk Gymnastics today. Skillful movements using only bodyweight can get you really fit! The ability to control your body and move it through space is useful. According to the googles, approximately 80% of the world’s population cannot do a pull up. I find this stat alarming. We need to change this!

At CFW I’ve coached countless people (both men and women) to get their first pull up. It’s amazing to see this happen! Obtaining the strength to pull yourself over the bar can be quite a journey. There are no shortcuts. It’s the dedication of work over time.

Of course we have other gymnastics moves- push ups, burpees, etc. Some are easier (air squats) and others are super challenging (muscle ups). Each movement has a scale to it. That means there are pieces of the movement you can work on as you build the strength and capacity before doing the full thing. We’ll modify the movement appropriately as you learn to gain skill and confidence.

One thing is for certain- the better gymnastic ability you maintain throughout your life the better you’ll age!
